The Sun circle: golden rules for a perfect tan

The hot season finally has come into its own, bringing us closer to the dream of a beautiful "post-quarantine" tan. Where to take sunbaths this summer - in Russian resorts or in your own country house – doesn’t make a big difference. What does matter is how to get your portion of vitamin D without harming your skin.

Why is vitamin D so much important for your body? Synthesized out of the sunlight, it helps maintain the level of calcium and phosphate in blood, strengthens bones and fosters the work of heart and brain. It can also impact mental health: when an individual lacks the “solar vitamin”, the mood is starting to sink or even a season depression can develop. However, there is a downside. Ultraviolet rays trigger not only the production of vitamin D, but the photo aging process as well, provoking the appearance of pigmentation, and in some rare cases it can cause the development of melanoma. To prevent the negative consequences, making the sun your best friend and not the enemy, one needs to follow some simple but important rules.

Preliminary work

A beautiful bronze tan requires good preparation. Experts draw our attention to biologically active complexes containing antioxidants. Taking dietary supplements with extract of turmeric, grape seeds, blueberry - makes it easier to resist the harmful free radicals being formed in the sun. Make sure to add to your menu carrots, pumpkins and apricots as they contain carotenoids (derivatives of vitamin A). Tomatoes, as well as red sorts of meat, will delight the skin with tyrosine - an amino acid that stimulates the production of melanin.

It makes sense to be preparing for sunbathing not only from the inside but from the outside as well. In order to make the tan even, make a light face and body peeling in advance. Remember about moisturizing: in summer, the skin tends to age faster, so opt for effective products, but with a lighter texture - for example, cream gels.

Capture the sun

The best tan is not fast, but gradual. It is important for the skin to get used to and adapts to new conditions. Monitor carefully the amount of time spent in the sun, and also be aware that the optimal time for sunbathing is from 7 to 11 am and from 16:00 pm up to the sunset. When choosing a black swimsuit, keep in mind that the black colour is not just a slimming one, but it does attract the sun. The best options for a swimsuit are white and beige colours shade as they reflect the light.

A vital step in the pursuit of a healthy tan is the choice of sunscreen. Here, in the first place, it is the SPF factor to pay attention to. It helps to prevent the occurrence of redness, sunburn, pigmentation and signs of premature ageing. The level of SPF protection depends on the phototype. Holders of fair skin need SPF 50, for olive skin SPF 30 is suitable, for dark skin SPF 15 is optimal. Never cheap out on sunscreen, it is not worth it: apply it at least 15 minutes before appearing in the sun and do not forget to refresh it, since the protection under direct sunlight partially evaporates.

In addition to SPF, just be aware of the presence of caring components in the product, for example, fatty acids, squalane. They help strengthen the protective barrier of the skin, as well as recover from the effects of salt, wind – highly negative factors that tend to make the skin more vulnerable.

Withdraw into the shadows

After sunbathing, it is very important to wash away salt, sand and remaining sunscreen. The point is that the filters contained in SPF products cover the skin with a microscopic skim. It is difficult for the skin to breathe under it. After a shower, use moisturizers after tanning. A significant plus is if they contain oils, for example, coconut, almond or shea butter. Complexes with omega-3 fatty acids will help maintain a bronze tint for a longer time. They prevent collagen destruction and have anti-inflammatory properties.
