How did the brand history begin?
In 1939, Hans Stern as a teenager came to Brazil with his parents and fell in love with vivid Brazilian gemstones, sold his accordion for $200 and invested the money in a jewelry business. In 1945, he founded Hstern Company. It was in 1951 that a breakthrough occurred in the young jeweler’s life, when he received an order for an aquamarine necklace worth 20 thousand dollars from the Nicaraguan dictator Anastasio Somoza. Nowadays, not a single five-star hotel in any capital of the Latin American world can be opened without an HStern boutique in the lobby, showcasing bright collections of watches, chains, rings, and bracelets.
Who is HStern’s muse?
The first muse was Catherine Deneuve. She inspired Hans Stern to create the “Catherine Deneuve Collection” after Belle De Jour by Luis Bunuel had been released, in which Deneuve starred.
What is the brand’s significant symbol?
The HStern Company, whose name contains the word “star” (translated from German), interprets its legendary symbol in many collections. The “Stars” collection is most iconic of them. This collection was inspired by the Victorian tiara (1900s), for which removable five-pointed star brooches were used. Nowadays, it’s a contemporary interpretation with a romantic touch of the bygone era. Rings, pendants, earrings, and brooches are made of noble gold (the brand’s exclusive alloy) and incrusted with numerous diamonds.
