How did the brand history begin?

Valentino Garavani founded the brand together with his business partner Giancarlo Giammetti in 1960. In addition, in 1964 they held a fashion show at Waldorf-Artoria Hotel in New York. It was after this show that Harper’s Bazaar legendary chief editor Diana Vreeland wrote a note to Valentino saying: “Geniuses always stand out as soon as they are born. I see a genius in you. Good luck!” – thus, predicting thumping success for the Fashion House.

In 2007, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli took over from the maestro. When creating their collections, designers aimed for the perfect balance between novelties, innovations, and traditions. In 2016, Pierpaolo Piccioli became the brand’s sole creative director. He is still true to the brand’s initial goal once declared by Valentino Garavani: “Nothing matters more than making women beautiful and modern”.
